Q8Are Japan's broadband service charges cheap by comparison with those of other countries?

A8According to a March 2006 study (published in August 2006 by Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications) of fixed prices for continuous broadband connections in Tokyo, New York, London, Paris, Dusseldorf, Stockholm and Seoul, Tokyo was the cheapest with a monthly charge of around 3,000 yen for a service with a transmission capacity of between 47 and 50 megabits per second. New York was next at 4,458 yen for 3 megabits per second. In London, the charge was 5,212 yen for 8 megabits, and in Seoul 5,423 yen for 50 megabits. If one compares the prices for 1 megabit per second, Tokyo is by far the cheapest.
